B.A.A 5k | Race Recap

Race Location: Boston, MA
Date: April 18, 2015, 8:00 am
Managed by: Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.)
Everything about this race was very organized. Runners were mailed their bibs about 2-3 weeks before race day and the bibs had their names printed on them. Sadly, my packet was lost in the mail, so I had to bring a photo ID on race day and was given a new bib. All booths were clearly marked, we knew exactly where to go. There were so many volunteers everywhere and they were very helpful. With a field size of 10,000 runners, everything flowed quite smoothly.
The Course:
The race started and finished at Boston Common. It was a beautiful, flat course that ran through the streets of Boston. The last leg of the race took runners up the famous Boylston St, where they were able to run across the Boston Marathon Finish line!
Adidas tech shirt, finisher’s medal, goody bag of food that included a fruit cup, pear, water and dinner rolls!! Vendors were set up throughout the Common giving away food and drink samples as well.
After Party:
Many of the runners hung around the Common for a bit and soaked up the sun. After a little wardrobe change, we headed back down Boylston and checked out the Sports & Fitness Expo at the John B. Hynes Convention Center. There was so many great vendors to check out! Adidas had a huge display to shop in, lots of healthy fueling options to sample, races all around the world to check out and even a chance to sit down and watch a video of the Marathon course. This expo was huge and lots of freebies were handed out.
Other comments/thoughts:
If anyone ever dreams of running the Boston Marathon someday, I encourage them to run this race. It was an amazing sample of what the race is all about. Runners from all over the world line the streets and shops of Boston and the positivity in the air is simply inspiring. We were able to get down there pretty early in the morning, before things started to open. We found the marathon finish line and were able to take lots of photos with it! The police officer on duty even diverted traffic around us, giving everyone all the photo ops they wanted. Everything about this day was perfect; the weather, the course, the people. This race made my heart smile!
